In my situation Windows recognized which particular card I had after a fresh install of Windows 10. The system itself will make sure that all of the requirements are met to ensure smooth installation. The problem is that the legacy cards, 2xxx,3xxx,4xxx, do not and never will be fully supported in Windows 8. It won't bother AMD, but in the last two weeks I've been consulted about replacement machines by friends and both times I've steered them away from AMD.
If I download the driver and let it extract the files needed to the root of my primary HDD where Windows 8 will be installed , and then try to update my drivers from the files itself in the Device Manager, would it work and allow me to change my resolution to it's optimal value? It took me a long time to get it to work. Anything to the contrary is an unsubstantiated rumor fabricated to drive traffic.

AMD has struck gold with its GCN architecture, and Nvidia have released a very power efficient architecture suitable for gaming. Add to that the trend that the gap between generations of GPUs is about 2 years, give or take. Nvidia: GTX280, June 2008, GTX480, April 2010, GTX680, March 2012. AMD: HD4870, June 2008, HD5870, December 2009, HD7970, January 2012, and now, HD8xxx, possibly Q4 2013. Of course, this wont be on 28nm if its not a refresh. The HD7000 series is what the HD6000 should've been, and from what I heard it seems that the HD8000 is mostly just a step up from the HD7000, so if waiting means it'll be better even if just because of drivers then great. AMD and its partners are happy with the HD 7000 Series, and it will continue to be our emphasis in the channel for the foreseeable future. Notes: If you don't already have the other AMD components CIM, runtime perquisites, AMD support packages etc. It is very important to remember this fact. I was able to install it by using have disk.
